Production Management Research
Your Challenge: Get Decision Makers' Approval for a Production/3 plan, execute & control. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound. Primarily due to rapid development of technology in the past thirty years, the market structure throughout the world has changed considerably. Local markets have become accessible to foreign manufacturers, who are able to perform well in their newly established territories in part due to their superior application of technology. In this light, most companies, including small and medium size, have embedded globalization in their expansion strategies, consistently seeking for new markets abroad. Consequently, local manufacturing companies are facing global competition, forcing them to adopt new concepts with respect to people, process and technologies. This document describes these approaches to production planning in detail as well outlines a software solution. The software solution (Production/3) combines both pull and push techniques and enables small to medium size organizations to fully automate their production system while retaining their investment in their legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

BI PROGRAM FOR CHEMICAL PRODUCTION: material, limited quantity of bins or any other short-term uncontrollable event. To ensure the coordination of parts at assembly, there is strong incentive to increase the lead- times to provide a buffer against unforeseen obstructions. However, as inflating lead-times introduces more material into the system, it increases congestion and consequently lead-time. Instead of delivering on time, the products are delayed even longer. Summary In the light of material discussed in previous sections, it is true

Master Requirement Planning and Master Production Scheduling Software: Hard FactsPart Two: Materials Requirement Planning and Master Production Scheduling
Most of the manufacturing software vendors have planning and scheduling software which assume either infinite production capacity for calculating quantities of raw material and work in progress (WIP) requirements or infinite quantities of raw and WIP materials for calculating production capacity. There are many problems with this approach. This paper discusses the pitfalls of this approach and how to avoid these by making sure that the software you buy indeed takes into account finite quantities of required materials as well as finite capacities of work centers in your manufacturing facility.

BI PROGRAM FOR CHEMICAL PRODUCTION: excellent MRP and MPS capabilities is a must. Materials Planning When fulfilling your orders, you cannot assume infinites. That is, you cannot assume you have infinite manufacturing capacity available, infinite access to quantities of raw material, and that infinite quantities of work in progress (WIP) materials can be produced by your manufacturing units. You always have fixed suppliers who supply fixed quantities of raw materials. Suppliers may be able to stretch a bit to give you more raw materials

Design for Serviceability
When the product alone was the primary basis of competition, the life of a design engineer was a lot simpler. No more. Design engineers are being asked to make an increasingly complex set of trade-offs, requiring a very cross-functional and inter-enterprise approach to the design process.

BI PROGRAM FOR CHEMICAL PRODUCTION: Design for Serviceability Design for Serviceability Bill McBeath - November 2, 2004 Read Comments A Passion to Serve As products commoditize, the battleground shifts to service excellence. Delivering exceptional service requires a real passion infused throughout the organization—a real desire to serve and make life easier for customers. It starts with how personnel are trained, not just in the service organization but across the company. But then it must be reinforced in every speech, every policy, and

What Does the Future Hold for PRM?
Almost every company has been scrutinizing their relationships with partners more closely and figuring out how best to reach and nurture them. With so much business going through indirect sales channels in the next five years, the need for some form of partner relationship management (PRM) should not be questioned. The natural question is then why only a few software vendors specializing in PRM have thrived?

BI PROGRAM FOR CHEMICAL PRODUCTION: and about its stand-alone viability, it is certain that there has been a need and demand for PRM, albeit the area has been a moving target ever since its relatively recent advent. While even during the dot-com euphoria many were dreaming about disintermediation?that is reaching their customers directly (often hoping at the expense of their partners)?the more realistic ones have always known the importance of the indirect channel (resellers, dealers, distributors, wholesalers, etc.). Now that the

The Four Steps to Reducing Production Scrap and Rework
Manufacturers know that production scrap can come from just about anywhere: from the ordered parts that don’t fit into a finished assembly, or from a physical prototype you’ve used and discarded. Whatever the case, the scrap—and any rework needed to fix the problem—costs you time or money, or both. Learn how you can overcome the most serious causes of production scrap with a product lifecycle management (PLM) solution.
